Who hasn’t been afraid to take part in an activity for fear of standing out in the group, the uniform or the kayak? In a social context where grossophobia is at the heart of many debates, and the prejudice that fat people are inactive persists, Mélissa Bédard, Mélanie Couture and Guylaine Guay, three friends from three decades apart, try to do activities that seem to be reserved only for the young and thin. Their Big Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Too (Toutoune journée) series comprises eight twenty-minute programs in which they set out to prove that nothing should stand in the way of our enjoyment, despite what some may think. These programs will be available online in the VÉRO.TV section of Radio-Canada‘s d’ICI TOU.TV EXTRA during the 2023-2024 season.
Boxing, climbing, yoga, paddleboarding, waterslides, cheerleading, pole fitness and wakeboarding… In the playful context of these activities, our three animators share life experiences, injuries and pride. Like Charlie’s Angels XXL, they prove that nothing stands in their way when you dare. They turn out to be full-size cheerleaders who fall down and get back up laughing. Big Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Too is a refreshingly entertaining show. They’re the real underdogs we want to see succeed. With their sharp repartee and infectious laughter, viewers are treated to a cocktail of authenticity. The aim is not to make thin people feel guilty or to victimize themselves, but to give ourselves (and by the same token everyone else) the right to live experiences that don’t always seem to be made for us.
Sadly, people of all ages and all shapes and sizes shy away from having fun. All too often, other people’s opinions are a barrier. Mélissa Bédard, Mélanie Couture and Guylaine Guay are on a mission to get around these obstacles and launch themselves into the void to prove otherwise. With Big Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Too, they’re sure to inspire you in the VÉRO.TV section of Radio-Canada‘s ICI TOU.TV EXTRA.
