A former police officer with a passion for unsolved cases, Stéphane Berthomet  devoted a podcast series to the circumstances surrounding the death of Louis-Georges Dupont, a Trois-Rivières police officer of impeccable integrity. He returns to this subject in a major two-part documentary, L’affaire Dupont : le combat d’une famille, presented on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 8 to 10 p.m. on ICI TÉLÉ.

On November 10, 1969, Louis-Georges Dupont was found dead in his service vehicle. The investigation was quickly closed and concluded to be suicide. The evidence was closed and the case closed.

However, Louis-Georges Dupont’s death continues to make headlines, as his family, who refute the investigation’s conclusion, has been fighting a long battle for 50 years to shed light on the facts. The family’s untimely death literally shattered their lives. The two sons have fought all their lives for recognition that their father lost his life in the line of duty, and for the honors due him accordingly.

There are two competing theories to explain this death: murder or suicide. In the 60s, Trois-Rivières was a veritable playground for the Mafia, and several police officers were involved in prostitution, as demonstrated by the first Police Commission held in Quebec in 1969. The incorruptible Louis-Georges Dupont, who testified at the Commission, made many enemies among his closest colleagues. Enough for them to decide to eliminate him?

Stéphane Berthomet shares his fascinating investigation with several witnesses from the time, as well as with journalists familiar with the case, such as Claude Poirier, Jean-Marc Beaudoin, Pierre Marceau and Mylène Moisan, and Louis-Georges Dupont’s sons, Jacques and Robert, who are present throughout the documentary.
