On Thursdays, October 30, November 6, 13, and 20 at 8 p.m., Télé-Québec presents the final episodes of the 11th season of On Duty 24/7 (De garde 24/7).

This time, the cameras take us to Puvirnituq, in Quebec’s Greath North, and to the Saint-Georges Hospital in Beauce, to delve into the heart of rural medical realities. We also follow the medical team of EVAQ (Quebec Air Medical Evacuations) aboard their air ambulance, which supports staff in the regions and connects remote communities to major urban centers, allowing patients to access the specialized care they need.

In these regions where resources are limited and challenges numerous, healthcare professionals must demonstrate exemplary resilience. Every decision can have life-threatening consequences; every action counts. Being a doctor or nurse in a rural area means practicing community-based medicine, rooted in the realities of the local community. It means caring for people you know, people you often encounter daily, with a genuine concern for their well-being and that of the community. Driven by a deep desire to build relationships, these professionals combine rigor, courage, and ingenuity to meet, day after day, the challenges of a demanding and profoundly human practice.

“When visiting hospitals in rural areas, you quickly realize that nurses and doctors are going above and beyond to provide an essential safety net for people living in communities that are sometimes very remote. It’s impressive to see the determination and empathy with which they work every day.” – Paul-Maxime Corbin, director.
