Unis TV’s new short series, Bulles de star, will be available online for free starting June 13th on TV5unis. This comedy, created and written by Marie-Eve Larivière, is Sonia Cordeau‘s directorial debut, with Dave Bélisle supporting the series as co-director. The series stars Marie-Hélène Thibault as Gabrielle, an arts & entertainment columnist willing to do anything for a click. Over the course of six episodes, Anne-Élisabeth Bossé, Fabien Cloutier, Élodie Grenier, Mathieu Dufour, Sonia Cordeau, and Marc Labrèche each bear the brunt of her detestable personality during an interview. Fabiola Nyrva Aladin, who plays their groupie waitress, rounds out the cast.
In Bulles de star, viewers witness Gabrielle’s colourful interviews as she takes the showbiz community by storm, one victim at a time. In each episode, the smarmy columnist meets a well-known personality to feed her website with entertainment news. Her thirst for attention is insatiable; awkwardness, lies, and glasses of bubbly are all strategies used to trap artists and rack up likes. “Bad press is good press!”
The comedy allows itself to laugh earnestly at the internet’s tendency to distort reality to rake in money and flatter egos. In this era of fake news, public figures, often despite themselves, become the bait that attracts the masses. Artists are often generous, passionate, and invested–easy prey for those who only care about views and for media outlets fuelled by clickbait.
Bulles de star is produced by Avanti-Toast through the Créateurs en série program, an initiative of TV5 and Unis TV.
