Starting October 25, Crave  audiences are invited to Antara Yoni’s yoga retreat to discover the surprising fates of its participants in the series Breathe In Breathe Out (Inspirez expirez). Like a whodunit, the ten 30-minute episodes oscillate between comedy and thriller, playing on both the absurdity of situations and the dark side of its characters. Balancing on the line between comedy and tension, Breathe In Breathe Out is a series that is at once funny, disturbing and touching.

Sonia Cordeau as writer, Jean-François Chagnon as director and Frédéric Ouellet as script-editor have succeeded marvelously in creating a unique series. The three creators juggle perfectly the codes of comedy-drama, social satire and thriller. This mix of tones, rarely seen in Quebec, is so entertaining and distressing that you quickly get hooked on the series. All we want to do is watch more episodes,” says Sophie Parizeau, General Manager, Fiction, Bell Média.

A yoga retreat far from relaxing

Sophie (Sonia Cordeau) and Vicky (Virginie Fortin) are two women in their mid-thirties who share the same circle of friends, but who don’t particularly like each other. They have nothing in common except their date of birth. For their birthday this year, they receive a joint gift from their group of friends: a certificate for a four-day “yoga healing” retreat on a small estate deep in the woods. It’s a disaster for both of them, especially as they’re forced to share the same cabin – a promiscuity that’s hard to live with. This forced resourcing takes a nightmarish turn when the corpse of a participant is found in the forest. The poor woman has obviously been murdered. A team of two SQ police officers arrive, but one of them seems more interested in protecting the reputation of the owner than in solving the crime. Forced to stay on during what they consider a bogus investigation, Sophie and Vicky must work together to identify the killer and save their own skins. Perhaps they’ll even come to like each other…

Breathe In Breathe Out draws its humor from the strength of its characters, brilliantly interpreted by an exceptional cast including Sonia Cordeau, Virginie Fortin, Édith Cochrane, Steve Laplante, Isabelle Vincent, Marc Labrèche, Tony Calabretta, Raphaëlle Lalande, Chantal Baril, François Ruel-Côté, Linda Malo, Katherine Levac, Alice Pascual, Étienne Lou, Gary Boudreault, Pierre Brassard and Jean-François Provençal. The series also features the talents of Melania Balmaceda Venegas, Justine Ashby, Mollie Fillion, Benoit Essiambre and Lena Leroux..

Breathe In Breathe Out is based on an original idea by Sonia Cordeau, in collaboration with Jean-François Chagnon and Katherine Levac. Stefie Shock composes the original music for the series, while Jean-François Chagnon directs this new series produced by Avanti-Toast in collaboration with Bell Media. The first three episodes will be available on Crave from October 25, with two more episodes to be dropped on November 1 and 8. The last three episodes will be available on November 15.
