On November 16, 23, 30 and December 7, we follow the day-to-day lives of nursing staff in regional hospitals.
After a ten-show incursion in which the public witnessed the daily intensity of staff at Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur-de-Montréal, whose ER is one of the busiest in the country, the On Duty 24/7 (De garde 24/7 ) series concludes its ninth season by turning to the reality of regional hospitals, where doctors live in close proximity to their clientele, but work with more limited resources.
In the programs presented on November 16, 23, 30 and December 7 on Télé-Québec, we meet the staff of Baie-Comeau’s Hôpital Le Royer, whom we met at the end of last season, and for the very first time we travel to the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, to the Hôpital de l’Archipel. Isolated from the rest of Quebec and therefore built to be self-sufficient, the hospital at Cap-aux-Meules has 30 beds, and the tightly-knit teams of doctors see dozens of patients every day. Their day-to-day reality is quite different from that experienced by doctors and specialists in larger centers, but their priority remains the same: patient health. Almost every day, doctors on the islands call on the ÉVAQ, an air evacuation service offered to hospitals in the most remote regions of Quebec to gain access to treatment in the larger centers. Miles in the air, we witness the care provided by the doctor and nurse on duty in their cramped space, but equipped with a full resuscitation room; their support is essential to the local teams.
One hundred shows and a tenth season confirmed!
By the end of its ninth season, De garde 24/7 will have presented one hundred programs at the heart of the work and, above all, the larger-than-life humanity of doctors and staff from Quebec hospitals. Télé-Québec and Avanti-Toast warmly thank them for allowing the public to discover their reality. The broadcaster and producer are also delighted to confirm that a tenth season is scheduled for fall 2024.
