Kurdistan, de gré ou de force
Kurdistan, de gré ou de force is a look into the lives of Kurdish people and their little-known territory, which finds itself, once again and in spite of itself, at the center of a geopolitical and humanitarian situation that is as catastrophic as it is uncertain. It is through the eyes of Khaled Sulaiman, an Iraqi Kurdish journalist who is back in his native and after living in Montreal for 10 years, that we explore the key themes and issues that rouse the region. Through Khaled’s approach, marked by hopes and doubts about the future, but also by a painful past, the film highlights the different realities and challenges of this people who must fight to maintain their borders in the face of a new enemy: the Islamic State. Like the heartbreak and upheavals that the Kurds are still experiencing, Kurdistan, de gré ou de force unfolds as a fragmented portrait that probes the hearts and memories of the people who bring this Kurdistan to life or who find refuge there while waiting for better days.
